Travis:
Consider yourself lucky that your grad program was demanding; mine let
anyone in and everyone got A's. In order to separate myself from the
"fly-by-nighters" I spent a lot of time learning things on my own and from
kind folks that answered all of my questions.
Unfortunately, most of the people who are coming out my school are learning
the hard way that they are not qualified for most the jobs that they apply
for. I worked extremely hard, dedicated my time to learning and found an
employer who is familiar with my program, so he knew what I was talking
about when I walked in his door.
I also had to find my "speciality", but I was able to get a serious grasp on
most of the industry's applications. I didn't mean to make it sound as if
experience is not necessary, but I'm from NYC where experience is everything
and it seems that the Pittsburgh market is concerned with what school you
attended and who referred you.
