Subject: | FLASH: dynamic voice (sound) activated Flash? |

Hello all,
THE BACKSTORY:
I have developed a Flash-animated character for use in tradeshows: a laptop
sits atop a motorized cart and the animation appears on the laptop screen
as the face--sort of a "Johnny 5"-ish kind of thing.
Currently, the setup has a "puppeteer" using a remote mouse to toggle the
"talking" cycle on and off as they speak through a sound system (the
character's "mouth" is a waveform that has wiggly frames and still frames).
Basically that works, but after the debut tradeshow my client said that
sometimes it got to be too crowded and as the cart rolled down the isle it
was hard to maintain line-of-sight, which the remote mouse needs to work.
THE QUESTION:
My client wants to have the talking be dynamically-activated by the sound
of the "puppeteer's" voice. Does anyone have any idea how this could be
accomplished (without tossing the Flash altogether)*? Is there perhaps some
exotic Flash plug-in or specialized hardware that could do this? I'm just
starting to look into it so any ideas for leads I could follow would be
appreciated.
*then again, if you know a non-Flash way, let me hear it. I just need to
present alternatives to the client.
Thanks.
