Sure, there are several approaches to this. Some of them involve cookies to
either a) save small bits of info like name, date, prefs, etc. and b)
special identifying info to associate the user to specific data in a
database.

Speaking of databases, this is part of the way that a personalized Flash
site can be done. It certainly takes a bit of learning, but IMHO, it's one
of the most fun uses of Flash. It's quite powerful, if you think about it.
