Subject: RE: FLASH: Targetting a movie clip inside a button

Hi John,

Thanks for your quick response. It was nearly immediate. I was afraid this
was the case. I'm looking to create a button that is reusable in from 1 to N
instances. It's a plaque kinda thing and needs a label that sits on top of
it. I wanted to put the labels in a clip that referenced a set of text
symbols, provide an instance name for the clip equal to the button number
and then target that to give the button a label. Iterate from btnLabel1
through N in a control clip and voila: one button works as often as needed.
Change the text symbols for the labels as needed. Modify size and color
attributes in the over and down states of the clip. But won't work. I didn't
think so.

I don't want to put any "private method" code on the instance of the button.
That defeats the reusability and destroys the encapsulation. Better to make
N buttons and keep them clean. Too bad you can't trigger events off the up,
over, and down frames themselves. Oh well...

Thanks again,

len
