Yep, the client side flash has a "keep alive"
connection that it runs every so often and if you are
reported as alive, it keeps you in the user table.
Otherwise, removes you.
Which is fine for a small amount of users, but it
seems that that could bog the server down with
multiple chat rooms serving hundreds/thousands of
users.
I've been told they are running Linux box(s?), with
PHP and Apache... I'm assuming MySQL for the database?
Either way, that part doesn't concern me so much as
I'll be using ASP and SQL Server 7. It's the dynamic
variables and manipulation that stumps me.
I have written many applications with ASP/SQL, but
without knowing how to do dynamic variables and
knowing what records were clicked, etc, I'm not going
to be able to put an effect Flash front end on them.
Anyone know of a tutorial or a quick sample on how to
accomplish this? Thanks!
