Moving graphics.
Perhaps numbering you file names in "Aname001.ai" while saving them to a
folder, you can import them in one step. Flash is smart enough to recognize a
series of images.
But I don't know if this will help to keep your file size down.

Gradients will always have to be refilled, unless it is a raster image. But you
don't want "those kind" of images weighing down your system and exploding the
fla/swf file size.
