I use this method too....you still get a very small margin between the table
and the side - especially in IE....

Well, yes, you are wrong. I use tables and frames all the time and if you
add this to the <body> tag you will probably loose separations (except those
that are produced by inadvertent page breaks or extra spaces):
marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" topmargin="0" leftmargin="0". If it is
frames, add the same thing in your framed documents.

Unfortunately - using a table flush to any side, top, or bottom will always
result in a 1 pixel margin.....I've not found anyway of getting around this.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
