Subject: FLASH: Creating Trails

I've been trying to create trailers such as demonstrated by the Trailers(fla
and swf) in the Flash4 Samples folder. I want the effect, but I DON'T want
to generate it via a button.

Yes, I've looked at the library via the edit symbol method, but I can't
figure how to apply the actions to the ball movie clip (without the button).
Can anyone assist this intellectually impoverished soul?
