Changing lines to fills might help in some cases, but I'd
it makes bigger files in most cases.

The fastest way to reduce file-size is to look at the publish
report and find out what the biggest objects in the file are.
Those are the ones you should work on reducing.

Other more general methods are:
-use symbols for anything that is repeated
-limit sound and bitmap imports.
