Subject: FLASH: Re: Loading Movie into MC
From: Laura Hamilton

I wrote in earlier because I was trying to load a SWF into a MC named
"mc_01_wwfullpage" and have it play inside another MC named "mc_slideshow"
located on the main timeline. I absolutely could not make it work.

Thanks to all who tried to help me, unfortunately none of the suggestions
worked immediately, though they did help me in a roundabout way. My problem
turned out to be very simple, but rather hard to diagnose.

The structure of my Flash site is thus:
Main timeline
>mc_slideshow
>>mc_01_wwfullpage

I wanted to load an SWF into mc_01_wwfullpage.

Here's what I did wrong:
I put the Load Movie action and all of the Set Property actions to control
placement INSIDE mc_01_fullpage. In other words, I tried to use that movie
clip to load an SWF *inside itself*.

I was tearing my hair out, then I remembered something in Phillip's post
about how I should be able to see the name of the MC instance in the Target
Editor window. That's when I started to think, "Would this MC instance show
*itself* in the Target Editor? Hmmm, maybe I am going about this wrong.
Maybe <lightbulb goes on in head> I'm putting these actions into the *wrong*
movie clip!"

So I took all of the actions out "mc_01_wwfullpage" and left it empty. Then
I went back to the appropriate frame in "mc_slideshow" and added in the
actions *there* to load the move into mc_01_wwfullpage and set the
properties for it.

Success! But I have to say, it wasn't very intuitive. I was certainly
thinking that the MC that would actually contain the SWF would be the one
that I would need to put the actions into.

Anyways, thanks to all who wrote with suggestions. They got my brain revved
up in the right direction so that I was able to find the answer.

Cheers!
Laura Hamilton
