Insert a keyframe with the Sound Properties set to the same sound file that
is looping but with the Sync set to Stop.

You don't want to use the Loop function? Uh, um, ... why not? That's what
it's for. I think your only alternative is to stream the sound, adjust the
animation to sync with it, and do some GO TO thing (which probably won't
make for a smooth audio loop). But you don't want to adjust the audio to
the frame rate either, though, right? Hmmm...
