Making screen savers can be a difficult or easy task, depending on the
programming language you choose. At least, that's what I've found in my
own attempts.
Originally I used Delphi... but its normally useful abstraction hurts you
when making screensavers. Which I switched to C, it became a piece of
cake. The only thing thats stopping me from releasing my screen saver is a
lack of speed... but that's another story altogether.
Regarding using Flash in a screen saver, you have two choices: purchase
distribution rights for the Flash ActiveX/Netscape Plug-in and embed it in
the screen saver; or guarantee that your customer will have the ActiveX or
plug-in on their system.
Actually, there are two more choices: one was mentioned earlier -- make
the screen saver a webpage and make sure IE40 is available, then use
active channels screen saver. The second choice, and the most difficult:
implement your own runtime for flash... the file format is open, so its
just a matter of doing all the drawing.
Troy.
