Why don't you try making that symbol a button and add an action in the tabs? Just select the symbol, right click, select properties and move the spot to the Button option. Just create two instances of the symbol. One for Up and, the Alpha one, for Over.

Tell me what happened.

I am trying to apply transparency to an instance of a symbol.  I think this is done by modify>instance,

however the option ,"instance", is grayed out.  I struggled with this in the past and can't find the governing

rules in the  Flash documentation.  Any assistance greatly appreciated!
