FLASH: OT b&w mac modems

has anyone found a permanent solution to the disconnects to g3 modems? i

have downloaded all the  updates, fixes, etc i have found at apple,

macintouch.com, xlr8yourmac.com, etc. and none of them have really worked...

short of pitching it out the window and getting an external, is there a way

to fix the disconnect problem?
