There seems to be a lot of things that work better in the  methods of

getting an image from Illustrator to Flash (AI, SWF and cut and paste).


One advantage of FlashWriter is if you want to export a quick fairly

short Text on a Path it does it quite well but the text is brought into

Flash as drawn elements (basic shapes and not text) so it should be used

only for short lenghts of text where there is not many character

duplication anyway.


By the same tokn all text not just modified text is exported as drawn

elements instead of text so either don't export regular text with

FlashWriter or export with the intent to use the import text shapes as

templates only for ease of alignment when replacing the text in Flash.


It seems alot of people are using or considering using FlashWriter to

create final product in SWF form directly from Illustrator. I hope the

reason that the text is shapes and not text is not to prevent this, but

rather a lack of time to implement this. It would not be good strategy

to impose this unneeded file size on users who export as final product

with FlashWriter since they still do not have animation and the more

stills exported with Flash the more likely it will be integrated into

future browsers instead of being a plugin. Secondly good Flash stills

beg the question of why there isn't a little animation in this pix

(after all it is Flash and it is easy isn't it?). It is very unfortunate

for Flashers that text from Illustrator is not exported as text

especially since there is not one good overall way to export text from

Freehand or Illustrator which properly retains text. Try to export text

on a path from Freehand or Illustrator and you will see that this simple

procedure requires work arounds or less than desireable means such as

losing text formatting with FlashWriter.
