Also a vital point is being missed in the answers I saw.
A wav file can have MP3 compression (encoding) and still retain the .WAV
extension.
IF you downloaded the wav off the net this is a good candidate for the problem.
If you have the windows media player play the wav and have a look in:
File --> Properties --> Advanced
a normal wav will only show "Default DirectSound Device" in the "Filters in
use" window
A wav file that's been encoded as an MP3 but still retaining the .WAV
extension will
show the above "Default Direct..." as well as "MPEG Layer-3 Decoder"
This is the 1st thing you should look for if you download a WAV off the net
(PC) and it won't
import into Flash.
To fix this problem: rename to .MP3 and use an MP3 to WAV decoder program
to rewrite the MP3
back to WAV, see previous posts on recommendation for doing this with WinAmp.
