Hey Paul

You will need to go about this kind of thing a little differently. What you want to do is instead of putting a movie clip in a button, put a button within a movie clip. Confused you yet?

Create a movie clip with the first frame having a button in it, being the normal button you have and a stop action on the frame(so the movie clip does not play) now in the next frame put the animation movie clip you want to play when the user rolls over the button. Then in the third frame onwards  fade out that movie clip animation and then have a script in the last frame saying go to frame 1 and stop.

Then on the button in the first frame put a script saying, on rollover got o frame 2. Now in the second frame make that button transperant and say on rollout go to frame 3 and play. Also delete the button in frame 3. Note it is best to have the button on a different layer in the movie clip than the animation.

hi..

i have some buttons that play little movie clips during the "over" state..  the
problem is,  as soon as you take the mouse off the button, the movie clip stops
abruptly.

Is there any way to tell the movie clip to complete all it's frames before
stopping?
