I would say a combination of both. There are just two active frames that
are playing over and over as you move the cursor, each time the MC hits
frame 3 it loops through each character twice - once to get the properties
and once to set the new ones (& re-draw) so if you have 100 characters it
has 1200 computations and 600 re-draws per second (is that right? wow!)
Am thinking there ought to be a better explanation for the slowness, tho, as
you can play around with the acceleration and deviation variables a bit to
make the greater number of characters "seem" to move faster. I tried one
with 30 characters and it looked better at acceleration of 3 and deviation
at 2.5. Some of the combinations are hilarious, tho. I lost the entire MC
a couple times....I think it ended up in the neighbor's swimming pool.
