Subject: FLASH: Graduated Mask

Is it possible to have a graduated mask. I have tried using a mask which
graduates from solid white to 0% alpha but it still shows up as a solid
mask.

The effect I am trying to achieve is a circular mask which grows in size
revealing an image below it.

Any ideas?
