Hi Ryan,
You are not alone with this problem. It was discussed on the list about 3
weeks ago and unfortunately there was no resolution. I don't think John
Dowdell of Macromedia quite understood the problem and I think we all ran
out of steam in trying to explain it.
In any case, it can be done, though not as easily as it was in Flash 4.
Here is what I do:
1. make sure that in "Edit>Preferences" that "Shift Select" is UN-checked.
2. that in "Edit>Preferences" "Flash 4 Selection Style" is Checked.
3. Lock all layers that you don't want to select as you normally would.
4. Press the "Multiple Frame Selection" button and move the handles as you
normally would.
5. Click on any blank part of the stage to UN-SELECT any symbols that may
have already been selected at this point.
6. Press Cntrl A to SELECT everything that is selectable.
That should do it. Or at least it does for me. I find that doing step 5
ensures that I will grab everything. Otherwise it seems to be hit or miss.
