Subject: RE: FLASH: Flash and ASP: writing text files from Flash???

Thanks Helen, I was hoping I'd get a response from you on this one! I
normally wouldn't ask a question without trying out the theory first, but
I've never written any ASP before so I thought I better ask before I screwed
up my server.
Like I touched on in my first mail, i was hoping to do all the concatenation
to create a 'load variables friendly' string in Flash before I passed the
variable to the ASP, that way I can sort the info client-side with
ActionScript rather than server-side, which will save me having to learn a
load more ASP (it's going to be a top 10 high scores). Any obvious reasons
not to do this?
If this all works out how i'm hoping I'll put together a little tutorial on
it.
Thanks.

Paul :-)

Well, in a "I've used it and it works" way, yes -- not in a "I
understand every aspect of it" way ;=) (speaking only for myself, that
is)

Yes, although you might want to make it something like

myFile.WriteLine "flashvar1=" & Request.Form("flash_var_1")

so that you can read it back into the Flash movie later on (with
LoadVariables) in the format it's looking for.

Sounds like it to me. Make sure your asp file has no html in it, only
vbscript (starts with <% and ends with %> and no html tags anywhere),
and I think you should be set.

Helen
