FLASH: Flash 5 + free barcode scanner

I posted this up on my FlashCoders list, but I figured you folks might enjoy

playing with it as well...


Hey folks. It seems like everyone out there has gotten one of these CueCat

thingies (if not you can get them for free from Radio Shack) and there has

been a big hubbub online lately about people figuring out how they work for

their own purposes.  It turns out that the things are only "encoded" to work

with the CueCat software, but that "encoding" scheme is just a simple

conversion to a modified Base-64 look-up table and then XORd by the ASCII

letter "C"... not exactly even encryption. *shrug*  So, anyhoo, last night,

after reading the cryptographic attack that was used to break the code, I

fiddled around a bit with my CueCat and made a Flash application that will

spit out to you your scanners serial #, the type of barcode scanned, and the

barcode its self. It will also translate that barcode into an actual ISBN#

if you scanned a book.  Its got a number of other features as well including

automatic linking to more information about a scanned item. Right now I'm

working on turning this into a cataloging system for me and my fianc�e's

books (we have a LOT).
