Yes, it's something like:
SetVariable "x"=GetProperty (movieclip, xposition)
SetVariable "y"=GetProperty (movieclip, yposition)
You can then move a clip by adding or subtracting from the variable:
SetVariable "x"=x+1
SetProperty (movieclip,xposition)="x"
This is really a simplified answer, but you get the idea.

Subject: FLASH: this may be a stupid question but.....
I was looking at the Demon Systems site (www.demonsys.com) .....and a
thought occurred to me....how does the pointer (or any object in a movie
clip) know where it is? Meaning, if you click on any of the buttons, the
pointer makes the same motion, moving a few spaces past where you click and
then going back.
What I'm wondering is, did the designers have to create a separate movie
clip for every possible click of the mouse? Or is there some way to tell the
clip "where it is"?
