Don;t feel so bad Jeffris, I'm a progammer and I understand objects,
inheritance, Z order etc.. and my progress has been very slow. The
documentation on actionscript is much better than version 4, but its still a
joke, not only do concrete examples not exist, but just on a reference basis
methods are incompletely documented, e.g. if you create a sound object I'll
be amazed if anyone can explain how the hell you use it other than to turn
off sound in a movie clip!
I'm doing a lot of R&D right now, I've created an event driven model within
flash using control movies, constants and functions, I will be doing
tutorials later on these on my site and hopefully with other people out
there was can make some sense of all this.
cheers

Subject: FLASH: Aaaggh - Flash 5 programming
I've read through most of the action script reference and manual, but I
am disturbed by my inability to apply the abstract descriptions of the
various functions to real life examples. {I learn best by doing!}. I was
told that the new manual would have more instructions, but I don't see
life applications in the Lessons or Help beyond the basics - nothing in
the programming arena.
I'd like tutorials that show how to z index and scale objects with mouse
clicks, e.g., I find that just looking at the already done examples
doesn't help me as much as the tutorial method where I follow along...
I am also having trouble creating a simple loop for 5 iterations in Flash
5 compared to the relatively easy coding of ver 4. I can't figure out
why it isn't working, except the syntax has all changed. If doesn't let
me add an else statement, which makes me feel a bit crazy... else is dimmed.
I am also concerned that the majority of the Flash 5 coding is not
exportable to flash 4. I expect to use flash 4 for publication for the
next 6 months until the browser base is built up to the more current
players...
Okay, so where do I go to learn the application of the scripts?
