Harsh words, but in a vague defence of JD I thought he made a good point
about how dangerous it is to reject something because it's too complex or
you don't understand it. On the flipside, rejecting something cos you don't
need it, and you *understand why* you don't need it is perfectly acceptable.
I new little about programming when I started with Flash 4, apart from a
months intensive course in COBOL. What I understood from that month was
there are only three things in a computer program...Statements (do
something), Iterations (do something a certain amount of times),
Conditionals (doing one of the former if a condition is/isn't met)
Clearly these concepts are not enough to transform you into an Action Script
programmer, but they were enough for me to kill the fear of learning a new
language. They are also useful to allow you to think about the logic of what
you want to achieve. I always write out in (very)long hand what I think a
script is gonna do before I even touch Flash - worry about syntax
later...after all, great resources like this list are always there to help
you out.
