Hi All,
Im new to the group, well, new to posting anyways. I am looking for a tutorial or help from anyone here as to make sounds in flash 4, such as mouse overs, or just in general. I have a small movie i just made, my first one to be honest, and it needs some sounds... I am sure its all too easy, but all the tutorials i have seen thus far have left me hanging... Thanks for the help.

Hi, Nick -

Are you trying to add sound to a button, or do you need assistance in actually
creating the sounds themselves?

If the latter, you can't create sound in Flash--you have to import existing
sound files into Flash. Creating sound is a whole 'nother set of tools. But
there are sound libraries that you can use--some legal, some not, some
free, some not.

If you want to get creative, you can make your own sounds. Most computers
have sound capability, and a microphone, shareware, and some ingenuity
are enough to get you started. You can get as eloborate with sound design
as you want to, but simple and inexpensive tools are enough to get you
started. But if you just want to download some sounds to use....

Flashzone has a large library of downloadable sounds. I haven't checked them
out, but the library is geared toward Flash developers, and I'm sure it includes
sounds that would make good button sounds. I assume they are royalty-free
and legal. http://www.flashzone.com/resources/sounds.html

For overall sound effects excellence, recommend SoundDogs, an online sound effects
library. (They also have production music for download as well). You need to pay for
the sounds (you set up an account using a credit card) but they're not that expensive,
and you can browse, search the library, select file type and sample rate, and download
only what you need. Also, the sounds are legal and royalty free. SoundDogs is now also
selling a CD of sound effects specifically aimed at the web-developer, I'm sure these
include button sounds. http://www.sounddogs.com

There area lot of other places online where you can download free sounds,
but many of these are illegal, pirate sounds. It's good to avoid that, if you can.

There are many CD collections out there with button sounds, just look around.
Some clip art CD-ROMs even have small sound libraries. In fact, the Flash CD
used to ship with a sample sound library on it.

Probably more info. than you need for finding simple button sounds, but I
hope that it helps.
