FLASH: OT- transparent bg in AI (placed file)

Hello List!


I believe this subject has been broached before but can't remember the 

details.

Here is the problem:  I imported a 3d object into AI for a logo. I drew it in 

Logomotion, exported it as a one frame gif 89a with transparent background 

but when I place the file into Illustrator 8, it converts the transparent bg 

to white. I vaguely remember a plug-in or another tip being mentioned to get 

around this problem so, if someone can help, I'd be grateful.
