FLASH: encapsulate a function

Hello,


In flash 5 is it possible to have a movieclip that refers to 

functions within itself in an clipevent(load) situation.


I've succeeded in getting it to call functions in movieclips in a 

higher cell but it would be nice if it kind of called itself - if 

this were poss then the movieclip (object) would encapsulate it's own 

functions.
