If it were widespread, you would see many, many occurrences of it on this
list already.
For "How can I troubleshoot such a thing?" the key process is to get back
to the condition other people share.
Be sure to run the installer with other applications off... this is one of
the most frequent causes of similar symptoms in various apps these days.
Doublecheck any antiviral utilities or background extensions.
On the Mac, make sure you have enough real RAM to meet the system requirements.
You already doublechecked the download, and so eliminated the class of
errors caused by differences during transmission.
The fact that you've tried it on two machines is odd... they may share the
same unusual configuration factor, or the files may actually be damaged
during the transfer. (I'm assuming this is actually installed on the hard
drive, rather than being run across a network or from a Zip drive.)
I'm sorry you lost time downloading this... I know that can be appreciable
on a modem. I'm also sorry that I'm not sure what's different there, that's
causing it to not launch. I can confirm that I'm not seeing a pattern of
similar posts from others. If this turns out to be an issue that others may
conceivably run into in the future then I'd greatly appreciate any followup
with the discovered cause, thanks.
