Let me put my $.02 in for consideration. While I respect the opinions
mentioned here, and even agree with them, I think there's an implicit
assumption being made that all "real developers" use the same methodologies,
or share a common purpose. I'm a freelance designer/animator who is often
involved with web based projects using Flash, DHTML, Javascript, ASP,
Quicktime, etc. While I am very familiar with HTML, Javascript and Visual
Basic, I'm not hired because of my programming skills. I'm hired to design
for screens. A product like Dreamweaver allows me to communicate my intent
to a programming team (hand coders all!) or a client in greater depth than a
Photoshop comp ever could. I love Dreamweaver specifically because it allows
me to leverage both my graphics and programming experience inside a single
extremely extensible environment. If I want to code, I can use the built in
text editor or launch the editor of my choice. If I don't like the code
Dreamweaver is generating or need to tweak it, there's nothing stopping me
from doing so. I am often involved with projects at a time when they are
fairly nebulous and need to be visualized. Dreamweaver allows me a great
deal of flexibility dealing with multiple iterations of a design in a short
time (like with a client right behind you, needing to be sold on an idea).
The beauty of it is that I'm no longer restricted to producing static
designs, I can generate working prototypes in a timely fashion. That being
said, I think that every artist should have in intimate knowledge of his
tools so that the limits of the possible aren't defined by the limits of the
interface.

No please don't fix it. I know some very talented people making a bundle of
cash fixing the code that dreamweaver generates and making it compatible
with all browsers. Their Livelihood depends on dreamweaver having the flaws
that it does.
In all seriousness, I can really appreciate Macromedia's effort to provide
the best quality product that they can. I think that it show well their
effort to support their user base in a forum such as this.

Hello Steven,

If there is code you think is confusing, send it to
maito://wish-dreamweaver together with an example of what you would prefer
to see. I am sure the team would appreciate it.
