Wow, I wish I could help here, but there's not much to go on. (I thought I
might be able to get some traction with that comment about the random()
function, but then it was followed up with "other functions", so I'm not
sure what to look at.)

Here are some related items which may be useful, though:

-- As the ReadMe file advises, you can't open FLA5 files in Macromedia
Flash 4. You should certainly back up your work on alternate drives,
though... if you keep only a single copy of your work then something is
seriously dangerous there.

-- When you export from F5 as SWF4, then many script items will be
converted to play in the older Players. Not all can, though. Check for
yellow highlighting in the Movie Explorer.

-- Most of the "old movie don't work" problems we've seen so far have been
traced to naming problems... the general advice, across environments, is to
use unique single-word case-sensitive alphanumeric names which start with a
letter and which can include underscores. (If an old variable is named
"date", for instance, then after being updated and backdated the new app
may or may not be able to make sense of that script.) More general info:
