You can actually mask multiple layers. Create your mask layer above the
first layer you want masked. Then drag additional layers that you want
masked underneath that. Presto - multiple masked layers.

the mask is applied only to one layer. one mask layer for one graphic
layer.
the intro may have 3 graphic layers, so 3 separate mask layers are present,
one
mask over each graphic layer. This is how I do it anyway.
