If you find this is an issue on your sites, then your movie can test
whether the version property is 5.0 or greater, and direct them to "hey you
need to update!" screen and link if not. (Just don't use a lot of the new
scripting to get there.... ;-)

SWF is a tagged file format, like HTML, so just as an old browser can do
some rendering of pages with new tags, it won't be able to render
everything. This recent release has mostly new interactive features rather
than media features -- you might remember how F3 Players couldn't play the
MP3 audio in SWF4 files, or how "there's no transparency!" came up when
Flash 3 was released -- these days new movies will just be a little odd if
an old player tries to render them. If you're targeting old players then
I'd recommend publishing in an old SWF format so you know what you're
getting.
