Subject: RE: FLASH: Flash and audio..

It's all to do with compression.

The clean, beautiful-sounding wav in Sound Forge is likely to be an
uncompressed 16-bit 44kHz stereo sample, taking up vast swathes of hard
drive space. (16 * 44100 * 2 bits = ~1.4 Mb per second)

Flash, however, is not a wave editing program, and when you play sounds in
it it plays a preview of what the end user will hear. And it uses heavy
compression to crunch the sound to make it download in a sensible time. If
you have a look in the audio compression settings you'll see a load of
options to do with sample rate, bit resolution and the rest - in here you
can increase the quality of your gritty sound, but only at the expense of
your efficient file sizes.

However, on top of this, I think some computers have a problem correctly
rendering the sound. My machine would only play flash compressed sounds
(even from swfs) in a very choppy, gappy manner - interspersed with silences
and clicks. The only solution I found to this was to upgrade my machine. My
sparkly new work laptop has no such trouble with the same files...

simple question, how well does flash deal audio (in the sense of clarity)?
When I load audio onto my pages it sounds like crap (clippy and dirty)...
but when I run the same wav from another program (like sound forge)
it sounds clean... I've yet to see any tutorials mention this.. anybody
else have this problem??
