This might be obvious for most out there but "fishPond" should be the name
of the instance of the movie clip. If you just name the movieclip as
fishPond without naming the instance as fishPond then there will be no
instance to which you can attach reduceAlpha.

I have a working Flash 5 movie of this example. If you'd like a copy I'd be
happy to email it.
