I guess it partially depends on how much you want to be involved on the technical side (hosting) and volume. We use Interspire http://www.interspire.com/emailmarketer/ for creating and managing our email 'campaigns'. If we wanted to we could have customers on there as well and they would be able to run their own campaigns and have their own logins and sending limits. It works very well. We use smtp.com for the actual sending although sendgrid are very good as well. If you send lots of emails it is cheaper than mailchimp or campaign monitor. Do not use a 'hosting' company as they will stop more than a couple of hundred emails an hour going through. We used the API's to integrate into our CRM system but unlike mailchimp and campaign monitor which integrate directly into capsulecrm (great crm system) we had to do it ourselves. If you have technical capacity it's not too difficult to do.
