[uk-netmarketing] Leaving UKNM? You must be joking!

Hi Sam,

Ninja organisation, but equal emphasis on prioritisation. Deliver as
early as possible, appraise, then and re-prioritise and refactor.
Ideally in a beautiful, unit test driven continuous integration environment.

Helps take out all the superfluous stuff that you thought you wanted before
you knew more, and tweak the stuff that isn’t quite as it should have been
as you go, because you weren’t using the system when you were
conceptualising and requirement developing, so couldn’t possible have
nailed it.

Non agile software development creates worse / bloated / less usable / more
expensive software & systems, it’s that simple and very easy to prove.

For the sake of the vocal detractors I will add It’s very easy to get
wrong, if you’re a bit shit at it, or all mouth and no process.

And if shit practitioners get it wrong, it goes *very* wrong, because you
have removed the traditional project management constraints, safety nets
and comfort blankets and expensive reporting loops that are required in
traditional project management methodologies – the ones invented for big
organisations not used to or capable of big, complex system development
(that they probably get wrong anyway…)

I guess it’s a like ‘life coaching’, or ‘SEO’ there is a lot of shit
talked about it, plenty of lousy practitioners, but in there somewhere
there are some ninjas.

Cheerio

Angus

Oh yeah, <coughs>, agile, that's me. Not literally, you understand, the
years haven't been that kind.

Here's a question though: does agile mean disorganised, yet able to respond
like some kind of ninja?

Sam, that’s not old age, that’s agile development methodology – very
cutting edge ;)

Hiya all...

Thanks for all the replies on this thread and the feedback, it's been
really useful.

As Suzy mentioned, I did ask a few months back about moving the list to
Linkedin, or, <clench> Facebook. The majority of replies were happy with
good old-fashioned email even if the quantity of posts is a bit sporadic.

Over the years I've looked at lots of fancy platforms, but there's always
been some reason for not moving. Initially I thought Linkedin might work,
but apart from a couple of exceptions, virtually all of the 50 groups I've
joined are full of spam.

As part of a bunch of tech work at Chinwag, we're moving to new hosting -
watch out for some new web stuff in the New Year - I've also sorted out the
archives for the list since moving to Mailman:

https://mm.chinwag.com/pipermail/uk-netmarketing/

It's a bit vanilla at the moment, but at least it's a start. The old, old
archives are up on the website and eventually I'll find enough time or a
script kiddie to pour about 10 years' worth of posts into the new archive
and tart it up somewhat.

In my old age, I'm trying (and most failing) to get things up a bit more
quickly and not worrying quite so much about they way they look, especially
when most of us are using email.

Any suggestions on how to improve the list, usage, etc. are very welcome -
point taken about speeding up the moderation of posts.

They all seem to be transient whereas this has remained the same and a
constant which in the ever evolving world of digital is actually a comfort.
I'm happy if it works in fits and bursts, that's the level I want not an
