Thanks for your thoughts everyone. We've decided to make the settings we do
choose easily tweakable (e.g. how many consecutive bad logins trigger a
lockout? How long is your time in the "sin bin" when you are locked out?).
It's all (as someone said) a balance between user convenience and security,
and so useful to be able to adjust things without much work if we feel that
needs doing.
