[uk-netmarketing] What do we think of Linkedin groups? Should UKNM move?

[uk-netmarketing] What do we think of Linkedin groups? Should UKNM move?

I always get the sense (on LI) that it's a pool of vanity and barely-disguised self-promotion ... which is why I use it a lot.

Just kidding... but it is, isn't it?

You join groups just because you feel there might be some opportunity in there... when we moved to Basingstoke, we joined the Basingstoke and Hampshire Business forums and have occasionally posted in there, but it's really trivial stuff. Full of people who just ask inane questions and then never return whilst the trolls go to town on making them feel small and stupid.

I guess with this list, I feel that this is a deep resource of experience and there are many on here willing to ask questions without feeling dumb, and many willing to contribute from their areas of expertise. I also see that many of us respect each others skillset and although occasionally it can get heated, I get the sense that we're all in it to help others. Digital is a much bigger pond than it was when I joined the list in 2001 (or so)... and yet this does feel a bit like a club. You wouldn't get that on LI.

I mean, given our substantial track record and success of driving thousands of profitable leads into top tier businesses in 2011, then you can trust our opinion (and click here for our pricing on)... ... oh, sorry, forgot this isn't LinkedIn ... ;-)

Moving swiftly on - every few months I ask what would amount to a 'dumb' question when something arrives outside of my area of expertise. And yet people don't scoff, they just get on with it.

Anyway, all the best to all for 2012. I will be offline as my fourth boy is due Tuesday ... life moves on fast: when I joined I wasn't a father...

Cheers
