Suzy, There is nothing spammy about the correct implementation of permanent redirects because content is being moved. This has the added benefit of retaining the link reputation of the previous URLs. But perhaps you should be asking your own 'experts': http://emarketing-tactics.com/internet-marketing/search-engine-optimization/ This is pretty basic SEO, so I'm surprised it is something you are reaching out for. By the way, the rapid arrival of thousands of links and an equally quick change in ranking are exactly the sorts of triggers that Google looks out for when trying to filter out sites seeking to manipulate it.
