hi, Alison, how are you? Visual Website Optimizer and Optimizely are quite similar. Google Content Experiments is very different. Google confused matters quite a bit by the way they rolled it out. They used to have 2 tools under the banner 'Google Website Optimizer'. One of those tools was a bit like VWO/Optimizely. The other (the one that they have merged into Google Analytics as 'Content Experiments') was quite different. Content Experiments allows you to compare 2 or more *complete pages*against each other, whereas VWO/Optimizely allow you to do that, but also to compare sections of pages, sections across thousands of pages, etc. Content Experiments requires you (usually) to add new code to your site to set each test running, whereas VWO you (usually) only have to implement code once. Content Experiments requires you to have built complete alternative pages in advance, whereas VWO you can simply change sections via Wysiwyg. Here's how the setup works: 1. You must set up an alternate version (or versions) of the page you want to test. 2. You then tell Content Experiments which page you'd like to test, and which are the alternate URLs. 3. You also tell it what the goal point is (eg. 'checkout completed'). 4. You must then add the content experiments code to the page you're testing. 5. It splits the traffic from your master page among the variants you've set up, and records how many of those reach the goal point, all integrated within Google Analytics. ie. it's basically a traffic splitter with reporting. That's great for using on landing pages, or fairly static pages that you can easily replicate. It does not work as well if you're wanting to test anything that runs across multiple pages (eg. navigation, or styles that run across multiple pages like 'product page button placement', etc), or for many dynamically generated pages. Hope that helps illustrate some of the limitations a bit! dan -- dan barker http://www.barker.dj http://www.linkedin.com/in/djbarker +44 (0)7855 953 942 On Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM, Peter Cunningham < cunningham_peter2004 at yahoo.co.uk> wrote: > Hi Alison > > Google Experiments is absolutely fine for A/B Tests.
