Hi Guys

There are loads of places to find and commission freelance writers - but it can be more trouble than it's worth actually finding one who understands the brand / messages, writes fluently, and delivers on time to budget.

I guess we can split this into two areas:

1. Reach: finding the places where a good quality of freelancer hangs out. From what I have heard (and my own experience) the technical orientated marketplaces (ODesk and Elance) are not the best place to find them. Freelancers.net is hit and miss... so where else do you go? Is it worth finding horses for courses or finding one you like and giving them a variety of work?

2. Assessment: OK, so again this is tricky, not just because you can never be fully sure who is writing what, but also there are some other issues. From grammar, to US spelling, to the biggest problem being the slow slide of ennui... (how many articles can you write about XXX  before you get bored?). I suppose if I were to put a list together of what I look for is: writing quality, spelling and grammar, style (and suitability for the client), responsiveness and thick skin (to feedback)

(of course you could add budget as a third - you do get what you pay for ... but assuming budget is reasonably competitive... )

So, anyone got any 'nuggets' on the two above items. I have had mixed success, but always interested in those with fresh angles.
