This should have been planned better. I think anyone who says "Free Wine

Here", is bound to get huge amounts of traffic to the site and things should

have been in place to have dealt with this before running around shouting

I did a quick check on their site traffic on Friday, as we're thinking of

running similar things in the future. . .


Looked like they were getting 400 orders successfully through the purchase

path per hour (we love the incremental order numbers gag! - best use of i've

seen so far was www.indulge.com, telling me i was customer 3957 or so a good

few months after launch - ooops!).


Given that the email didn't send you round the rest of the site, but pretty

well directly into the purchase path, i guess that there were about ~1500

unique visitors at peak??? painfully slow. If they manage to get the  full

10000 through the purchase path, then dedupe the carpetbaggers like me

successfully, they're only going to end up spending around $25,000 on the

whole exercise - sadly quite a cheap stunt in the online world. . .
