The amount of accumulative information you can get through multiple cookies
throughout a site is surprisingly large. Might only be single session, but
the possibilities are disquieteningly huge, combined with a good cms.

And given that tracking information and the results of tracking to the user
is to a large extent what personalisation is actually about (exempting
"push" personalisation, which is a little clunky).It's possible that a user
need never register, yet still receive personalised information.

Yes, usable information is obviously curtailed by non-registration, but it
would be a fallacy to suggest that users *have* to.
