It might have benefits short-term, but, assuming there are useful services
outside your walled garden, it limits your offer a bit doesn't it? Offering
open services is pretty easy these days too - and it's easy to turn opennes
into a selling point.

It's the mid-1990s Compuserve/AOL vs Internet situation, isn't it?

Conversely, if I visit a bookshop and they don't have a book I'm after, I'd
be impressed if they offered suggestions of other (competing) shops where I
might get it... "putting the customer first" and all that.
