It's easier now for the little guy with things like freenetname (sorry
Steve), but if someone finds your (hopefully ideal) entry via a search
engine are they really going to think "Ewww, he doesn't have a domain name"?
You have to remember that �20-�100 is a lot of money for many small
businesses and there are many other ways to add value to a site and/or get
found that involve simple sweat from the brow.
Sure, if you want to put the URL on the side of your truck, then you'll need
a decent domain name - as acknowledged in both books.

Oops.
;)
You're probably right, though. After all, the second book is less about
marketing and more about the *mechanics* of planning and building a site
without needing to know HTML plug, plug, etc. etc.
