The new versions of the lists are running on a Lyris server. Although
Majordomo and before that Macjordomo have served us well for the last 5
(nearly 6!) years, Lyris provides a more industrial version with database
functionality and more personalisation features like the unsubscribe link at
the bottom of each email.

Having said that it's taken us quite a while to get it set-up just how we
wanted and to fully get into Lyris' features and drawbacks. There's still
something to be said for Majordomo, particularly if you extend it, which we
did, to include batch delivery features. It involves some fairly heavy duty
monkeying around with Perl though.

If you (or anyone else) has questions about Lyris/mail serving, feel free to
ask off-list...I suspect this probably bores everyone not involved rigid.
