Subject: | UKNM: UK credit card processing |

Many thanks for the replies re UK v US hosting.
One other major problem I see for the UK web-trepreneur is the cost of
accepting online card payments. Barclays EPDQ service costs 500 to set
up, followed by 40 a month fees with 3-4% transaction fees. Surely this
is prohibitively expensive for the small e-commerce trader? Natwest
meanwhile have their agreement with WorldPay- 125 p.a, accepting Am
Express and Diners Club cards, but.... seems you may pay 4.5% per
transaction! I hope these figures are correct, please feel free to
correct me.
The point is that for a small internet-only retailer online processing
is one huge cost too many. We are going to use a Natwest Streamline
manual processing terminal; requires the merchant to punch in the card
number making full automation of the sales process impossible, but for
the smaller merchant surely a better option. When the 50+ orders a day
start coming in my complaints will be redundant!
Any thoughts? Our discussion group is running a thread on this too, my
apologies for not providing an active link in the last post.
Harry Warner.
