If anyone is interested in finding out more I suggest you have a look at
http://www.unmetered.org.uk which is the site for The Campaign for
Unmetered Telecoms.

Given the effect that the removal of the connect charge has had on internet
uptake, it seems likely that the removal of the metered telco connection
charge will have as great if not greater effect on penetration and more
importantly, usage. I firmly believe that this is the single most effective
barrier to internet growth in the UK at the moment.

As we all stand to benefit from such a move (even BT if they would think
different/smart), I would encourage everyone to adopt this issue as
industry policy and all do whatever we can to promote unmetered access
(it's *not* free).

I suspect that if clients could be involved in this debate they will see
that the removal of metered charges will lead to a massive increase in
e-commerce and overall usage of the net.
