Microsoft offers the following services (amongst others!):-


Submit It! Announcement Service   - OK, but very little UK specific or

industry directories

Banner Network FREE - plenty of better free networks or better still ones

where you get paid to show ads on your site!  Can result in really naff

looking ads being shown on the site.

Revenue Avenue FREE - lets you earn money from your Web site by 1) referring

merchants, and 2) selling products and services - means putting lots of

grotty links on your site, not for the professional site.

ClickTrade Advertiser - lets you create your own affiliate program to allow

others to send paying customers to you.

AdStore - I wouldn't bother using this, far better selecting sites

yourself - gives very few options as can only purchase banner adverts on

certain sites, not worthwhile.

FastCounter FREE - But you wouldn't want to use this anyway on a

professional site counters on sites are naff!

PositionAgent - Gives position in only "top 10 search engines" a handy tool

for a quick reference for those that don't have more advanced means of doing

this.

Keywords - This enables you to buy keyword listings on GoTo, but you can do

it yourself by visiting goto!

ListBot - Fine if you don't mind users going off your site to sign up, cheap

solution at just $100 a year, can download the contacts into your own

database if you like, and also gives you ongoing stats, you can ask people

any questions you like when they sign up.  Handy if you don't want the

hassle of running your own mailing list manager, removes bounced and deals

with removal requests.

ListBuilder - This goes beyond listbot in that you can send HTML email

messages and get more in-depth stats for just $19.95 a month.


Personally I wouldn't want to deal with the above if I was serious about my

business, great for small players and home pages etc or for those start-ups

who aren't cash rich, or for those who want something up and running fast, I

have suggested use of ListBot to clients before as it would be a case of

having that or nothing at all.


The banner network is not the best and the search engines and directories

hold few UK specific ones.


If your site really professes to being the "best site" I wouldn't recommend

using bCentral.

That's what seems to be on offer at bCentral.com. I'm amazed that I haven't

heard about this on UKNM - why not? Is it crap? Is it brilliant? Somebody

tell me. I am so excited by the prospect of cracking all my email

newsletter, viral marketing, search engine ranking and affiliate programme

needs for the price of a good lunch every month that I think I may actually

wet myself.
